Why is eating sushi when you are pregnant bad for you

Why is eating sushi when you are pregnant bad for you. I am 14 weeks pregnant right now and I was told by many people, including my doctor, that I shouldn't eat raw fish while carrying my baby. If it is prepared properly I don't see the reason why I shouldn't.

What do Chinese women in China eat then. I know that is pretty much like Americans eating beef or chicken over there. Are there studies supporting these facts or is it just a myth? I get the no luncheon meats and hot dogs, if you read the package yourself you can see why that might not be so good for a developing fetus, but what is wrong with a California roll? It is much better than eating some fried chicken or a fatty burger.

Don't eat sushi during pregnancy because of possible bacteria NEW
by: Anonymous

You don't eat raw fish during pregnancy because of the bacteria it could be carrying. Also the people preparing the food may unintentionally transfer bacteria to the food with the utensils, they use. We cook food in order to kill whatever harmful organisms that may be living inside of the "dead animal" we are consuming. Remember that key point, these creatures are no longer living and deterioration has surely set in by the time they arrive on your plate.

I know it seems unreasonable to some, but that is your personal choice. I can hold off until after the baby is born in order to indulge in my "healthy practices" that are better off untouched during gestation. We are talking about 9 months here, and if you are already in your 2nd trimester then you only have 6 more months to go.
