When I had my daughter, she was nearly two weeks past my due date, very late. I started having contractions on the day before they were going to induce her. I didn't think much of it at first and went to sleep, but when I woke up, my bed and clothes were soaked. My water had broken in my sleep!
My husband and I arrived at the hospital around 5 PM. The contractions weren't regular, but they kept me since my water had broken. I suffered from irregular contractions for most of the night, and around 7 AM, they told me that my daughter's heart rate was slowing down. They gave me extra oxygen to help her heart rate, but labor didn't speed up enough.
I ended up having a C-section around noon, which broke my heart. I wanted my daughter to be born as naturally as possible. During the surgery, everything was fine until in a flash, I felt the most intense pain you could ever imagine. They were taking the baby out, and apparently the anesthetics didn't work as intended. They gave me morphine until I couldn't move, but I could still feel what they were doing.
I ended up having to have general anesthesia, and I think I was about the last person to get to meet my daughter. Once I had recovered enough to see her, though, it was all worth it. I didn't have an ideal childbirth experience, but having a happy healthy baby made it worth all the pain!
