The first two weeks after I found out I was pregnant were wonderful. I walked around on cloud nine, felt great, the grass was greener the sky was more blue. In my head I was usually congratulating myself on what a breeze early pregnancy was and could not believe I had escaped morning sickness.
Then one afternoon when I was about six weeks pregnant I was with my husband at a friends house for a BBQ and I threw up my chicken sandwich and potato salad. No big deal, until I couldn't stop throwing up. I was sick at least once and hour for the next several days, the nausea being so bad I would wake up in the middle of the night from it to be sick.
I called my doctor and his nurse told me not to worry about it, no big deal. They told me to buy a pressure point bracelet to wear and to eat ginger snaps and drink room temperature water. This was of no use to me and the vomiting continued. After about a week or so of this, I got so dehydrated my husband took me to the emergency room where they had to hook me up to IV's for the night because I was so dehydrated.
They gave me a prescription for something that was supposed to help, it didn't. The next week I was back for more IV's and a different medication. The next week was the same, around the clock vomiting and IV's and new medications. They finally put me on home IV therapy so I wouldn't have to come in to get re-hydrated. Someone came to my home every other day to change the IV.
Finally at twelve weeks they gave me a medication called Zofran. It was a miracle drug for me. I didn't throw up again and could enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. So my advice to you is if you are really sick don't let people brush you off, keep bugging them until they do something for you.
