Are ultrasounds bad for the baby or mother?

I am a first time mom, hopefully. This is my first pregnancy and I want to make sure to do everything possible to carry a healthy baby to full term. I am eating healthy, exercising in moderation, getting enough rest, taking my prenatal vitamins and keeping all of my doctor's appointments. But I never thought about the harm that I could be doing to me and the fetus growing inside me when I get an ultrasound scan.

I love seeing my little one on the screen but is it best not too?

There is no documented evidence of harm NEW

There is no documented evidence of ultrasounds hurting the baby or the mother. And millions of pregnant women have had them, millions. I think they do far more good than they could ever do harm.

They can help you pick up on possible problems, abnormalities, give you a more accurate due date, find out the gender of your baby, and they just help you get to know your baby on a deeper level even before you deliver. Instead of just hearing the heartbeat with the doppler monitor at your prenatal visits you can actually put a visual silhouette to the person you know is growing inside of you. It's a beautiful thing.
