Are orgasms safe during the first few weeks of pregnancy?

I just completed a cycle of IVF and got the wonderful news that my beta numbers were high and that I was pregnant. I have not had intercourse but did have an orgasm a few days after the beta test. Will this hurt the embryo?? Will it change the implantation of the embryo??

Sressed out....

Orgasms are safe during pregnancy for the most part NEW

Orgasms are safe during pregnancy for the most part. I just went through my second in vitro cycle this summer and the doctor told me not to have sex or an orgasm during that 10 day waiting period after the embryo transfer. But once you have a positive pregnancy test, and your beta numbers are rising, then there is no need to delay your normal sexual activity, unless you were advised not to do so by your doctor.

Your beta numbers only rise after the embryo securely implants itself in to your uterine lining and continues to grow. The contractions from an orgasm will not and should not cause any disturbance of that attachment in most cases. Plus, you have just gone through a tense time and your hormones and nerves are all over the place. Sex can be a great source of stress relief. :-)

But to be safe, you can always call your doctor or their nurse to confirm if this is okay.
