6 weeks pregnant with heavy bleeding but no cramping

I am 6 weeks pregnant with heavy bleeding but no cramping. Is this a normal pregnancy symptom at this stage or should I be worried? This is my first pregnancy and I am scared out of my mind. I called my doctor and I'm waiting on his callback. I came to this website hoping someone else has had this happen to them and may know what to do.
