3 Weeks Pregnant - Early Symptoms of Pregnancy
When are you officially 3 weeks pregnant? This website uses the gestational age chart to monitor and calculate pregnancy weeks, which starts off on the first day of your last period. So what is happening in your body when you are three weeks pregnant, and what are the early symptoms of pregnancy?
During the 3rd week the fertilized egg is traveling down the remainder of the fallopian tube toward the uterus. Once it reaches the uterus it will embed itself into the lining of your uterus (or endometrium). In a normal 28 day cycle ovulation occurs 14 days after the first day of your period. If the egg is fertilized then the next 7 to 10 days it continues its journey to your uterus where implantation will occur.
Depending on your own personal cycle, your body, and when conception (fertilization) occurred, implantation will happen towards the end of the third week, days later, or a week or more later. So right now you are probably still waiting to see if you are going to become pregnant. If you weren't trying at all then you are living and going about your daily routine as you usually would. Though you may not have experienced any yet, there are early pregnancy signs before your missed period.
If you are trying to have a baby then it is actually recommended that you start taking prenatal vitamins containing folic acid at least one month before you become pregnant, as well as throughout your 40 week term. You should try to get a prenatal vitamin that contains 800mcg (micrograms) of folic acid. Folic acid consumption has been shown to reduce a woman's risk of having a baby with neural tube defects, such as spina bifida and anencephaly, by fifty to seventy percent. 1,500 to 2,000 babies born in the United States each year suffer from spina bifida. While anencephaly occurs in about 1 of every 150-200,000 births each year in America.
