My name is Audrey and I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant. My pregnancy came as a surprise (like many women), and even though I am a little frightened (it's my first), I am excited as well. This is definitely one of those situations where it feels like fate is stepping in. I've actually been on birth control for a few years now, but didn't manage to get a refill the last month I took them -- I even took the "morning after pill" after our "accident," but the baby was already in place.
It's definitely good to have the support of family as one goes through this. Even though my parents and my boyfriends parents are anxious for us, they are also very excited and have already been so helpful with driving to the doctors, advice, etc. To anyone who recently found out they're expecting, don't be afraid to let those close to you know. Everybody has been so supportive and handled it much better than expected.
Hearing the heartbeat for the first time is an amazing experience. I was fortunate and was able to hear it at my prenatal visit at ten weeks, which is somewhat rare. It really helps to make it seem more "real" if that makes sense.
I have also been fortunate when it comes to symptoms. I had nausea, but never vomited (ginger ale helped). Breast tenderness was something that took getting used to, however. Right now I'm at the awkward stage where my clothes aren't fitting right anymore, but I'm not ready to commit to maternity clothes yet. I've lost weight a couple years ago and still have some of my "fat clothes," but I'm even outgrowing most of those now. Sweatpants at home are my best friend right now. :)
To anybody new to this and scared right now, just try to be strong. Once you begin to adjust to the idea of being pregnant, it becomes much easier and the real excitement/anticipation starts to set in. Enjoy the experience while you can.
