14 Weeks Pregnant - How big is my baby week 14?
“I am 14 weeks pregnant now,” what to expect? There is no doubt that you are in your second trimester of pregnancy now. You may already need to wear maternity clothes at this point and your belly may be showing. So what is going on in your body and with your baby at this stage, what are the usual symptoms and common complaints?
If you are in your 14th week, which is fourteen weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), then your fetus is 12 weeks in age right now. Your baby is about 3 ¼ to 4 inches (8 to 9.3 cm) long from crown-to-rump. The weight is almost 1 ounce or 25 grams. The fetus size is comparable to a closed adult fist.
Common Complaints or Symptoms during week Fourteen
- Vivid/Weird Dreams - Many women have reported having an increase in unusual dreams at this time. They mat be sexual in nature or nonsexual.
- Flutters - Even though fetal movement becomes more pronounced by week 16, some mothers are able to feel tiny thumps, flutters or butterflies in their lower abdomen at 14 weeks pregnant.
- Acne or Skin changes - You may notice the development of acne, pimples, or zits during your gestation. This can be caused by the many hormonal changes that are going on in your body right now. You should consult your doctor about options for treatment.
- Frequent urination - This fun pregnancy symptom does not subside at all for some women. As your baby grows and keeps adding pressure to your bladder and other organs you will find the time in between bathroom trips will become shorter and shorter.
- Mood Swings - It may have started out as one of your early signs but by now you may actually notice and acknowledge that you are a little more ratty, bratty, short-tempered, impatient, or even a little more aggravated (or aggravating depending on who you ask). You have a lot of hormones running though your body as well as a baby growing and stretching your body slowly on a daily basis. You have the right to be a little moody at times.
- Nausea/Queasy - Even though morning sickness symptoms stop during the second trimester for many women you still may feel nauseous and may still vomit at this stage.
- Tiredness of the body - It is still quite normal to be tired at 14 weeks pregnant in your 2nd trimester. Listen to your body and rest as much as you can. There is another human being forming and growing inside of you after all.
- Increased Breast Size - It doesn't happen for everyone this soon, but you may have noticed changes in your breasts; bigger, firmer, more sensitive, swollen, larger and/or darker areola area. These "bigger boobs" will most likely last the entire time you are pregnant and while you nurse or breastfeed your baby.
- Constipation - Though irregularity may be a frequent occurrence during these 9 months there are some natural remedies to help "move things along". You can increase your fiber intake, drink plenty of water, drink prune juice, and possibly switch to a prenatal vitamin that also contains a stool softener if you are not taking one already.
- Weight Gain - You need to gain some weight if you want to have a healthy baby. The average number of pounds most women should/do gain is about 25 pounds. This number can be higher or lower depending on what you weighed before you were impregnated and how many babies you are carrying. Twins and multiples may be recommended to gain more than the standard 25 pounds by their OB/GYN or midwife.
If you are 14 weeks pregnant and haven't done so already you should have stopped be smoking, drinking alcohol (this point is debatable by some but you really can't wait a few months for a drink?), any and all illegal drugs including marijuana/weed, cocaine, crack, heroin, crystal meth, ecstasy, etc. If you do have a harmful addiction of any kind you should seek help immediately.
Do you have a question, story or symptom during your 14th week of pregnancy?
